Joshua is our four year old. He brings us great joy. As I watch him and soak in his thoughts on a daily basis, I think that Jesus must have been talking about 4 years olds when He said, "unless you become like a child". Joshua has no worries about where he will be tomorrow or what he will eat at his next meal. He truly flows through life without any anxieties. He trusts that his parents will provide what he needs-when he needs it. He really inspires me to trust my Father more.
Today, Steve came in with that serious George McDonald or CS Lewis look on his face. I knew something was brewing in his mind. Joshua and I were sitting at the table with a book. Steve( with his most serious inflection) said, " Why do we need philosophers? What does philosophy do for us?" He looked at me for an inspiring answer (like I usually provide :) - when Joshua suddenly raised his hand high to the sky. "I know! I know daddy!" Steve (still rather serious) said, "OK Joshua, what is a philosopher?"
A philo swatter is what you kill flys with daddy! Steve had to crack a smile at this answer as I was in stitches.
How profound, yet simple 4 year olds are. They remind me of fritos. Which is a whole nother story.
